Fireflight, “Name”, an attempt at transcription.

This is gonna seem like a really weird thing to post on a blog, but as this is nowhere else online, I thought I’d go ahead and post it.

I LOVE the song “Name” by Fireflight, but I could never find the chords for it. I decided to attempt transcription with my newly acquired music theory knowledge, and I might have something to start with.

If anyone wants to use these, I’d test these out and make necessary adjustments (comment here if you have any.) This is what I managed to get on the piano. You all will have to figure out where the sustained, diminished, and augmented chords are in most places, as I was only using the root and perfect fifth for each chord (that’s what they use in the song.)

From what I can tell, this song is in the key of B major.

I’ll also include the note pattern for the verse.

VERSE
LEFT HAND:
C#/G#

RIGHT HAND MELODY:
C#, C, G#, F
C#, C, G#, F

LEFT HAND:
F#/C#

RIGHT HAND MELODY:
C#, C, G#, C#
C#, C, G#, C#

BRIDGE
D#
G#
F#
Bb (dim?)
C#(sus4?)

CHORUS
C#
C# 2nd Inversion
F#
G#

(REPEAT VERSE, BRIDGE, CHORUS)

BRIDGE 2 (Comes after Chorus 2)
Bb/F
F#/C#
G#/C#
Bb/D#
C#/F

(REPEAT VERSE, [NO BRIDGE] CHORUS)

(NOTE: The last note on the third verse slides from an F# to a G#)

END ON C#

I’d play that while listening to the song, to pick up tempo, and find any possible errors.

Anyhow, hope if there is anyone out there, looking for the chords for “Name” by Fireflight, this will help them out!

Thanks, Jason. I’ll bring this to practice tomorrow and see if it will assist the guitarists in our little fledgling group at church.

    Thank you for your work!
